Palmdale, California (December 3, 2020) – A CHP officer who was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident last month in Palmdale has died, authorities said.

The deadly accident occurred on November 23, on Avenue North near 34th Street West.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Officer Andy Ornelas, 27, was on his motorcycle headed to a traffic accident scene on Antelope Valley (14) Freeway when the accident occurred.

While en route to the crash site, Ornelas was reportedly struck by a Ford F-150 pickup that was headed eastbound on Avenue North.

The Ford made a U-turn directly into the path of Officer Ornelas, causing the accident, the officials said.

As a result of the crash impact, Ornelas was ejected onto the roadway.

Ornelas sustained major injuries and was transported to Antelope Valley Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, December 2.

Further details regarding the accident were not immediately available.

The crash remains under investigation.
