Carol Sanchez Fatal Pedestrian Crash on Highway 99 near Franklin Road in Merced
Carol Sanchez ID’d as Woman Killed in Merced Pedestrian Accident on Highway 99

Merced, California (March 22, 2019) – The Merced County Coroner’s Office has identified the woman who was struck and killed by a vehicle as she tried to escape from the police on Wednesday night in Merced.
Carol Sanchez, 26, died in the collision that took place at about 8:40 p.m. March 20, on Highway 99 north of Franklin Road between Merced and Atwater.
The California Highway Patrol said Sanchez was driving on Highway 99 when an officer pulled her over on suspicion of DUI. The officer radioed another officer after realizing Sanchez had an odour of alcohol. Sanchez reportedly tried to flee on foot and as she ran across the northbound traffic lanes, she was struck by a Honda.
Carol Sanchez Dies in Merced Pedestrian Crash
Sanchez was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Honda was not hurt and remained at the scene.
The authorities are still investigating the deadly accident.
