Inez Barranti Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 280 in Hillsborough

Hillsborough, California (March 16, 2019) – Authorities have identified the 86-year-old Millbrae woman who was killed Wednesday afternoon in a traffic collision involving two vehicles in Hillsborough as Inez Barranti, according to the coroner’s office.

The horrific accident was reported at around 3:40 p.m. Wednesday, March 13 on Interstate 280 near the Crystal Springs Golf Course and near Golf Course Drive.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2016 Volkswagen Golf driven by a 16-year-old Redwood City girl, was making a left turn onto Golf Course Drive from the ramp onto northbound Interstate 280 when for an unknown reason it struck the right door of a 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe that was heading eastbound.

The force of the impact caused the Hyundai to overturn and landed on the left side.

The CHP said the, a 63-year-old Millbrae man driving the Hyundai and his passengers, Barranti and an 89-year-old man, were transported to Stanford Health Care. Barranti later died at the hospital.

The driver of the Volkswagen and her passenger, a 15-year-old Belmont girl, were not hurt in the crash.

Alcohol or drugs were not a factor in the crash.
