18-Year-Old Driver Killed, 3 Seriously Injured in Highway 70 Accident near Cox Lane in Oroville

Butte County, California (January 21, 2019) – A driver was killed and three other people were seriously injured Sunday evening in a head-on collision in the Oroville area, according to a local news source.
The deadly accident happened at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday, January 20 on Highway 70 near Cox Lane, between Palermo and Robinson’s Corner.
According to authorities, an 18-year-old was driving at speeds above 90 mph when they lost control of their vehicle on a rain-slicked curve and collided head-on with another vehicle occupied by a 90-year-old couple.
One of the vehicles burst into flames as a result of the collision.
The 18-year-old driver died at the scene and an 18-year-old passenger sustained major injuries and was taken to a hospital.
The couple suffered major injuries and were both taken to a hospital. The names of the deceased and the injured victims have not been released.
Highway 70 was shut down as emergency crews worked to clear the scene.
Police are investigating the accident.
