Richmond, California (July 19, 2021) – Two girls were hospitalized following a Sunday afternoon traffic crash in Richmond, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision happened at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 18, on Interstate 80 at the Central Avenue exit.

The CHP said a black Mercury Mariner was heading westbound on Interstate 80 when the driver exited at the Central Avenue off-ramp and came to a halt due to the stopped traffic.

A silver Toyota RAV4 failed to slow for the stopped traffic ahead and rear-ended the Mariner.

After the impact, the Mariner overturned and landed on its roof.

Interstate 80 Collision in Richmond Sends 2 to Hospital

A young teen and preteen, who were passengers in the Mariner, complained of pain and were transported to a hospital for precaution. Their father, who was driving the car, did not suffer injuries.

The woman driving the RAV4 and her baby were not injured.

Further details about the crash were not immediately disclosed.

The crash remains under investigation.
