Michael Smith ID’d as Man Killed in Placerville Crash on Missouri Flat Road near Life Way
Placerville, California (June 5, 2021) – Authorities have identified the man who died last week on Thursday morning following a head-on collision in Placerville as Michael Smith, 22, of Placerville.
The deadly crash happened at around 8:15 a.m. Thursday, May 27, on Missouri Flat Road near Life Way.
Authorities said Smith was driving a 2006 BMW 325i southbound on Missouri Flat Road when, for unknown reasons, he allowed the vehicle to cross over the double-yellow lines and into the northbound lane, where it collided head-on with an oncoming 2007 Dodge Ram 2500.
Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Dodge driver was transported to a local hospital with major injuries, including a broken ankle. Her two passengers had minor injuries.
All parties involved were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident, authorities said. It was not immediately clear if drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.
Missouri Flat Road was closed as the investigation and cleanup took place.
The accident remains under investigation.
