Indio, California (May 28, 2021) – The Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s Bureau has identified the man who died Thursday morning following a wrong-way, head-on collision in Indio as Ronald Cook, 38, of Sisseton, South Dakota.

The incident took place on Avenue 42, just west of Jackson Street shortly after 7 a.m. Thursday, May 27.

Cook was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of Avenue 42 when his car collided head-on with an oncoming pickup truck.

The truck was then struck by a vehicle traveling behind it.

Cook was rushed to John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at around 7:55 a.m. His passenger was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Several other parties involved in the collision were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

The crash caused a closure of the Avenue 42 and Jackson Street intersection for several hours as authorities examined and cleared the scene.

The incident is under investigation by the Indio Police Department.
