Ross Schultz Among 2 Berkeley High Graduates Killed in Truckee Crash on Highway 89 at Cabin Creek Road
Truckee, California (May 27, 2021) – Ross Schultz, 20, was among two recent Berkeley High graduates who were killed Tuesday afternoon in a head-on collision in Truckee.
The deadly crash was reported at about 3:20 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, on Highway 89 at Cabin Creek Road.
Authorities said a 2014 Ford Fusion, driven by Schultz, was traveling northbound on Highway 89 toward Truckee from Tahoe City when, for unknown reasons, the Ford Fusion crossed over the double yellow line into the opposite lane, where it collided head-on with a southbound Freightliner truck.
Deadly Head-On Collision in Truckee
Schultz was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger in the Ford Fusion, Dixie Lewis, 19, also died at the scene. She was the daughter of famed Berkeley author and financial journalist Michael Lewis.
The operator of the truck, a 45-year-old Nevada man, sustained minor injuries in the crash.
Authorities said neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected factors in the accident.
