Ines Maximiano ID’d as Man Killed in Palermo Crash on Lincoln Boulevard near Messina Avenue

Palermo, California (May 13, 2021) – The Butte County Coroner’s Office has identified the man who died last week on Friday night following an alleged DUI crash in Palermo as Ines Nolasco Maximiano, 34, of Los Angeles.
The fatal collision occurred shortly after 10:30 p.m. Friday, May 7 on Lincoln Boulevard, just south of Messina Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2000 Audi, driven by Jaime Benavidez, 25 of Yuba City, was traveling on Lincoln Boulevard at an unsafe speed when it rear-ended a 2001 Toyota driven by Maximiano.
After the impact, the Toyota drifted off the roadway and struck a tree.
Maximiano died in the crash.
Benavidez attempted to flee the scene but was detained by witnesses. He was determined to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident and was arrested.
On Tuesday, Benavidez was arraigned in Butte County Court on charges including drunk driving and hit-and-run.
A GoFundMe page has been created to help cover the funeral expenses of Maximiano.
The accident remains under investigation.
