Stephen Hendrickson ID’d as Tesla Driver Killed in Fontana Crash on 210 Freeway near Citrus Avenue
Fontana, California (May 13, 2021) – The San Bernardino County Coroner’s Bureau has identified the driver who died last week on Wednesday morning following a traffic crash involving a Tesla in Fontana as Stephen Michael Hendrickson, 35, of Running Springs.
The deadly crash occurred at around 2:40 a.m. Wednesday, May 5, on the 210 Freeway near Citrus Avenue.
Authorities said a 2011 Mack commercial vehicle combination, driven by a 50-year-old San Bernardino man, was traveling on the westbound side of the freeway when, for unknown reasons, it overturned, blocking the No. 1 and 2 lanes.
A passing motorist, a 30-year-old San Bernardino man, stopped within the No. 1 lane and tried to help the driver of the Mack truck.
A Tesla traveling in the No. lane approached the area and struck the Good Samaritan and the Mack truck.
Hendrickson, who was the driver of the Tesla, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Good Samaritan and the operator of the Mack truck were taken to nearby hospitals with major injuries.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has launched a new probe into the accident.
