Coulterville, California (April 27, 2021) – The two motorcyclists who were seriously injured Monday afternoon in a head-on collision in Coulterville have been identified as Selina Granados, 37, of Merced, and John Canavan, 59, of Cool, El Dorado County.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the major injury collision happened at around 2:10 p.m. Monday, April 26, on Highway 49, just north of Schilling Road.

The CHP said Granados was riding a 2019 Honda street bike northbound on Highway 49 when she crossed over the double-yellow lines on a curve in the roadway and drifted into the northbound lane.

Granados’s motorcycle then collided head-on with an oncoming 2018 dual-sport BMW motorcycle driven by Canavan.

Both motorcyclists were thrown off their bikes upon the impact and sustained major injuries.

Granados was airlifted to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto, and Canavan was airlifted to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. Their current condition was not disclosed.

According to the CHP, the two motorcyclists were wearing helmets and were traveling between 30-50 mph prior to the collision. Neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected factors in the accident.

The crash remains under investigation.
