Valley Springs, California (February 22, 2021) – Authorities have identified the motorcyclist who died Sunday evening following a traffic accident in Valley Springs as Michael DeMasters, 24, of Valley Springs. He was a fish and a game warden employed by the State of California.

The deadly accident happened just after 4:00 p.m. Sunday, February 21, on Double Springs Road, just west of Highway 26.

According to the California Highway Patrol, DeMasters was off-duty riding his Kawasaki ZX-6R eastbound on Double Springs Road while a 17-year-old Valley Springs teen was driving a Chevrolet Camaro westbound.

The CHP said the two vehicles were entering the same curve in the roadway. Due to the high rate of speed, the juvenile was unable to negotiate the curve and drifted across the double yellow lines directly into the path of the oncoming Kawasaki.

Both vehicles eventually collided head-on. The force of the impact caused DeMasters to be thrown off his bike.
