Fresno, California (February 11, 2021) – The Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office has identified the Good Samaritan who died after being struck by a hit-and-run driver early Wednesday morning in Fresno as Juliana Ramos, 27, of Reedley.

The accident happened at around 12:20 a.m. Wednesday, February 10 on the northbound side of Highway 99, just north of Manning Avenue, the California Highway Patrol reported.

According to the CHP, a big rig collided with a white Hyundai Elantra for unknown reasons on Highway 99.

Following the collision, Ramos pulled over at the crash site and got out of her Nissan Rogue to help the driver of the Hyundai.

Ramos, who was standing near the driver’s side door, was struck by a passing SUV.

Ramos was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Hyundai was taken to Community Regional Medical Center with major injuries.

The driver of the SUV stopped briefly at the crash site and then drove off. The suspect’s vehicle was described as a red or burgundy SUV, possibly a red Ford Explorer with possible damage to the left front fender.

Authorities are still searching for the hit-and-run driver.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing. Anyone with information on the suspect’s whereabouts is urged to contact the CHP at 559-262-0400.
