San Bernardino County, California (January 7, 2021) – A 52-year-old Taft man died after being struck by a hit-and-run driver Sunday night in San Bernardino County, according to a local news source.

The California Highway Patrol said the deadly accident occurred on Highway 58 near Highway 395 at around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, January 3.

According to the CHP, the Taft man was driving on Highway 58 when his vehicle developed mechanical problems and pulled over to the shoulder.

As the man was speaking with a tow truck company, he exited his vehicle and walked eastbound on the shoulder of the highway in westbound lanes.  For undetermined reasons, an oncoming tractor-trailer big rig then struck him.

Deadly Pedestrian Accident on Highway 58 in San Bernardino County

The man died in the accident. His name has not been disclosed pending notification of family.

The big rig driver stopped briefly at the crash site and then drove off. There was no description of the truck or the driver.

Police are still searching for the hit-and-run driver.

The accident remains under investigation.
