Fresno County, California (January 7, 2021) – Idalia Perez, 32, was among five people who died Tuesday night in a two-vehicle crash near Firebaugh in Fresno County.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly fiery crash happened at about 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, January 5, on Interstate 5 near Panoche Road exit.

The CHP said a pickup truck, occupied by Perez, her children, Ixzel, 10; Luis, 8; Jorge “Jorgie,” 1; and her mother-in-law, Martha Colin, 52, was heading northbound on Interstate 5 when, for undetermined reasons, the truck crossed over the center median into the southbound lane, where it collided head-on with an oncoming big rig.

Both vehicles caught fire after the impact.

Deadly Head-On Crash on Interstate 5 in Fresno County

All five people in the pickup truck were killed in the crash. The driver of the big rig sustained minor injuries.

The southbound lanes were closed while the investigation and cleanup took place. It is undetermined whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation.
