Brentwood, California (September 7, 2020) –  A man was killed and two other people were critically injured Monday evening in a head-on crash on a highway in Brentwood, according to authorities.

The deadly accident transpired just before 5:00 p.m. on Highway 4, between Balfour Road and Marsh Creek Road. 

The California Highway Patrol said a 2008 Nissan Ultima was traveling on Highway 4 when it crossed over double lines into the opposite lane and collided head-on with a 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe that was heading westbound.

The sole occupant and driver of the Nissan, only identified as a 21-year-old Antioch man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was withheld pending notification of family.

The male driver and female passenger of the Hyundai sustained major injuries and were airlifted to Walnut Creek for treatment.

The road was closed in both directions due to the crash.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
