Scott Burtness ID’d as Motorcyclist Killed in Hemet Crash at Red Mountain and Cougar Roads

Hemet, California (June 21, 2020) – The Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner officials have identified the motorcyclist who died in a traffic accident Saturday morning in an unincorporated area of Hemet as Scott Burtness, 32, of Menifee.
The fatal crash occurred at around 7:40 a.m. Saturday, June 20, at the intersection of Red Mountain and Cougar roads.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Burtness was riding his new 2020 KTM Adventure dual-sport motorcycle southbound on Red Mountain Road and was rounding a curve in the roadway.
At the same time, a northbound 2001 Dodge Ram pickup truck hauling a 1971 utility trailer, driven by an 84-year-old man from Kingman, Arizona, was making a left turn from Red Mountain Road onto Cougar Road.
Burtness attempted to avoid hitting the pickup truck but lost control of his motorcycle. He was ejected from the bike and landed onto the asphalt roadway and slid into the 1971 utility trailer’s right side.
Burtness was declared deceased at the scene by paramedics. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured in the crash.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
