Several Injured in DUI Hemet Multi-Vehicle Crash at Florida Avenue and Santa Fe Street

Hemet, California (February 18, 2020) – Several people were hospitalized after being involved in a multi-vehicle collision that happened in Hemet at about 10:50 p.m. on February 15.
The California Highway Patrol said the crash took place in the area of Florida Avenue and Santa Fe Street on Saturday night.
The accident began when 24-year-old Jonathan Padilla, who was driving a black Chevrolet SUV, slammed into a light pole and continued driving on the highway. Padilla then collided with at least three other vehicles at the intersection of Stetson Avenue and Lyon Avenue.

Officials said a dog and several people were hurt following the second collision. All injured victims were rushed to area hospitals for medication. The dog was also transported to a nearby shelter by animal control officers.
Padilla, who was driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs at the time of the collision, was arrested and booked into Cois Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta on suspicion of DUI and DUI causing great bodily injury.
The detectives handling the case are gathering more evidence to identify the cause of the accident.
