San Diego County, California (February 5, 2020) – Authorities have identified 28-year-old Bernardo Valdez of Escondido as the man killed in Escondido head-on collision on Friday morning in San Diego County.

The crash occurred on January 31, at about 7:44 a.m. in the 8500 block of Harmony Grove Road, just west of Wild Willow Hollow Road.

As per the CHP officials, a Subaru WRX driven by Valdez was heading westbound on Harmony Grove Road when it drifted into an eastbound lane and sideswiped an oncoming Toyota Prius.

The impact caused the Subaru to crash head-on into a Toyota Highlander SUV driven by 38-year-old Ardeshir Tooraji of Carlsbad.

The Highlander overturned on its roof following the crash.

Deadly Crash in Escondido Claims Man’s Life

Valdez suffered fatal injuries and was declared dead at the crash site.

Tooraji and his three passengers identified as 34-year-old woman, 38-year-old woman and 26-year-old man, all residents of San Marcos suffered minor injuries in the collision. The four were treated and released at the scene.

The Prius driver, identified as 49-year-old San Marcos man, was unhurt in the crash.

Officials later arrested Tooraji on suspicion of auto theft and possession of stolen property.

Authorities closed Harmony Grove near Wild Willow Hollow Road due to the collision.

An investigation is ongoing.
