Richland, Washington (December 18, 2019) – A 12-year-old girl was hospitalized after being struck by a truck Monday near a parking lot in Richland, a local news source reported.

Authorities said the Carmichael Middle School student was on the sidewalk along Lee Boulevard when she was hit by a man driving a Chevy pickup truck turning into a parking lot. The driver was picking his adult son and had just turned off Wellsian Way.

The driver said he didn’t see the girl on the sidewalk.

The girl lives in Kennewick but attends school in Richland and was heading to the Ben Franklin Transit bus stop when the accident happened.

She was transported to Kadlec Regional Medical Center, and then flown to a Spokane hospital.

Authorities said the driver was not impaired at the time of the crash.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
