Elderly Woman Killed in Newman Crash on Hills Ferry Road near River Road

Newman, California (February 12, 2020) – An elderly woman was killed in a crash involving a big rig on Tuesday afternoon in Newman, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The wreck happened at around 1:30 p.m. February 11, on Hills Ferry Road west of River Road.
CHP said an 80-year-old Newman woman was driving a Toyota westbound on Hills Ferry Road when the car partially drifted into the eastbound side and collided with an oncoming big rig.
The impact caused the big rig to loose control, crashing into an electric pole on the side of the road.
Newman Woman Killed in Newman Big Rig Collision
The driver of the Toyota was killed in the crash. Her name was not immediately released.
The driver of the big rig, Ruben Martinez, 51, of Modesto, was transported to Memorial Medical Center for treatment of moderate injuries.
CHP said alcohol and drugs were not suspected to be factors in the crash.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
