Rio Vista, California (July 5, 2019) – Several people were injured Monday morning in a four-car accident in Rio Vista, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The accident took place at about 9:30 a.m. Monday, July 1 on westbound Highway 12, just west of Jackson Slough Road, which is near the Rio Vista Bridge.

CHP said a big rig was unable to slow down in time and crashed into the rear of a pickup truck. The big rig then struck a white sedan, which was wedged between the big rig and under the trailer of another big rig.

Emergency crews responded to the scene and extricated a 49-year-old woman who was trapped inside the wrecked sedan. The woman was then airlifted to the NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield with moderate injuries.

Six occupants of the pickup sustained minor injuries in the wreck.

The names and conditions of the patients were not immediately disclosed.

Both eastbound and westbound lanes were shut down as crews worked to clear the scene.

No further details were immediately available.

The crash remains under investigation.
