Santa Maria, California (December 13, 2020) – Six people were injured Saturday afternoon in a single-vehicle traffic accident in Santa Maria, according to a local news source.

The crash happened at around 2:15 p.m. Saturday, December 12, on Highway 166 near the Twitchell Reservoir, authorities reported.

As per the report, a vehicle was traveling on Highway 166 when, for undetermined reasons, it veered off the highway and crashed 50 feet down an embankment into the riverbed.

At least one person was ejected from the vehicle, according to the authorities.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene and found at least three people, including two children, suffering from major injuries as a result of the accident.

One seriously injured victim was airlifted to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, while five other patients were taken by land ambulance to Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria. Their names and conditions were not immediately disclosed.

No further details about the accident were provided.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
