5-Month Old Girl Killed, Mother Critically Injured in Torrance Crash at 220th Street and Western Avenue

Torrance, California (July 30, 2021) – A two-vehicle crash has claimed the life of a 5-month-old baby and left her mother in critical condition Thursday evening at an intersection in Torrance, authorities said.
According to the Torrance Police Department, the crash happened just before 5:00 p.m. Thursday, July 29, at the intersection of 220th Street and Western Avenue.
Police said one vehicle was attempting to make a left turn from Western Avenue onto 220th Street when, for unknown reasons, it collided with another car.

The mother and her baby, who were passengers in the back seat of the turning vehicle, were ejected during the collision.
Both victims sustained major injuries and were taken to Harbor General Hospital, where the infant later succumbed to her injuries. As of Friday, the mother was still in critical condition.
One other person in the second vehicle was also hospitalized with unknown injuries.
The names of the deceased victim and the injured parties have not been disclosed.
No arrests have been made in the case.
The accident is under investigation.
