San Diego, California (May 3, 2021) – Four people were killed and twenty-five others were injured after a boat capsized off Point Loma coast in San Diego on Sunday, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

The boat believed to have been part of a migrant smuggling operation overturned at about 10:30 a.m. near the 200 block of Catalina Boulevard near the Cabrillo Monument

The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department said four people died in the incident. The identities of the victims were not immediately disclosed.

Twenty-five other people were transported to the hospital for treatment.

The Customs and Border Protection Public Affairs Office believes the boat was possibly being used to transport undocumented people into the United States.
