Man Injured in El Cajon Collision on Interstate 8 near First Street

El Cajon, California (June 18, 2021) – A man sustained major injuries in a collision that occurred on Interstate 8 in El Cajon on Thursday evening, according to CHP.
At around 4:50 p.m. June 17, CHP said a 64-year-old man from Boulevard was driving a 1994 Chevrolet Astrovan on Interstate 8 when he failed to slow down for traffic and slammed into the rear of a 2001 Toyota Tacoma pickup that was being driven by a 20-year-old man from El Cajon.
The impact pushed the pickup off the side of the road and it overturned down a concrete flood canal.

The driver of the pickup sustained serious injuries and was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital.
The second motorist was treated for minor injuries at the scene.
Authorities said intoxication was not believed to be a factor in the incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
