Patterson, California (November 4, 2020) – Two people were killed Sunday night in a single-vehicle traffic collision on an interstate in Patterson, according to authorities.

The deadly crash took place on Interstate 5, just north of Diablo Grande Parkway on Sunday, November 1, according to a report by the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP determined that a 1998 Mitsubishi was heading southbound on Interstate 5 when, for undetermined reasons, it veered to the right and traveled off the roadway.

The Mitsubishi continued out of control and rolled down an embankment. As the vehicle overturns, both the driver and a passenger were ejected.

Authorities said the crash sparked a large grass fire in the area, which was extinguished by firefighters.

Deadly Solo-Car Crash on Interstate 5 in Patterson

The driver and passenger were declared deceased at the scene. Their names were withheld pending notification of family.

It is undetermined if drugs or alcohol were factors in the accident.

The crash remains under investigation.
