Whittier, California (June 25, 2021) – One person was killed early Friday morning in a traffic collision involving several vehicles in Whittier, according to authorities.

The California Highway Patrol said the deadly multi-vehicle wreck happened at around 2:27 a.m. on the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway and Rose Hills Road exit.

According to the CHP, at least five vehicles and perhaps a big rig collided for unknown reasons in the northbound lanes of the 605 Freeway.

As a result of the crash, one of the vehicles overturned.

One person died in the crash. The name of the victim has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.

The northbound No. 1, 2 and 3 lanes of the 605, the northbound HOV lane and the Rose Hills Road off-ramp to the 605 were temporarily blocked following the wreck.

No further details about the crash were immediately provided.

The accident remains under investigation.
