One Person Killed in Moreno Valley Hit-and-Run Collision at Iris Avenue and Camino Flores
Moreno Valley, California (May 26, 2021) – One person was killed Tuesday night in an alleged hit-and-run crash at an intersection in Moreno Valley, according to the Riverside Sheriff’s Department.
The deadly accident happened at around 11:47 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, at the intersection of Iris Avenue and Camino Flores.
Authorities said a gold 2005 Toyota Camry was heading westbound on Iris Avenue when the driver failed to stop for the posted stop sign and was struck on the driver’s side by a silver 2006 BMW 325i that was attempting to make a left turn from eastbound Iris Avenue towards northbound Camino Flores.
After the impact, the Toyota went off the road and struck a light pole before it caught fire.
Deadly Hit-and-Run Car Accident in Moreno Valley
The driver and sole occupant of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the victim has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.
The driver of the BMW did not stop to render aid to the victim and fled the scene. The suspect, later identified as Jamal McCoy, 21-years-old, of Moreno Valley, was arrested at his residence.
McCoy was ultimately booked into the Riverside County Jail for felony hit and run. It is undetermined whether intoxication played a role in the collision.
