Marina, California (June 4, 2019) – A 72-year-old Monterey man was killed and one other person was injured Tuesday morning in a traffic accident in Marina, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The horrific accident occurred at about 9:20 a.m. on Highway 1 near Reservation Road.

According to the CHP, a Subaru driven by a 28-year-old woman was traveling on the southbound Highway 1 on-ramp from Reservation Road. While entering the on-ramp, she drove onto the shoulder and crashed into a white Kia Sol that was stopped on the shoulder for an unknown reason.

The Monterey man, who was seated in the driver seat of the Kia, was declared dead at the scene. His name has not been released pending notification of family.

The Subaru driver sustained moderate injuries in the wreck.

Neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected factors in the accident.

The crash remains under investigation.
