Encino, California (July 3, 2019) – A man was killed after a trench collapsed during construction work on a home in Encino Wednesday evening, according to a local news source.

The deadly incident occurred at about 6:25 a.m. at a property on 5055 N. Louise Avenue.

Authorities said the man descended into the trench that was described as 10 to 20 feet deep to do work on an underground sewer line when the trench collapsed and buried him up to his chest.

Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene and they performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the victim. Despite lifesaving measures, the man was pronounced at the scene.

His name has not been disclosed pending notification of family.

The incident remains under investigation.
