Madera County, California (January 1, 2021) – A 41-year-old woman was killed in a Friday morning traffic accident that left a 17-year-old teen seriously injured in Madera County, just west of Friant.

The deadly accident occurred on private property east of Road 206 and south of Road 145.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a Dodge Ram truck, driven by Ashton Wilfong, 28 of Friant, was coming down a hill on the private property when it made an unsafe movement, causing the vehicle to overturn and land on its roof.

The 41-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 17-year-old teen was hospitalized with major injuries.

Wilfong was arrested at the scene and booked into Madera County Jail for driving while intoxicated and gross vehicular manslaughter.

Five people were in the vehicle, and none was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

An investigation into the collision is underway.
