Manuel Vazquez Arrested after Fatal Hollister Crash on Sunnyslope Road near Sunnyslope Lane
Hollister, California (June 22, 2021) – Authorities arrested a driver involved in a fatal auto-pedestrian collision on Sunday evening in Hollister.
The crash occurred at around 6:25 p.m., on June 20, on Sunnyslope Road near Sunnyslope Lane.
According to the Hollister police, a vehicle was traveling southbound on Sunnyslope Road when the driver swerved to the right for unknown reasons. The driver then overcorrected and moved into the path of oncoming traffic.
The vehicle struck a man and a woman walking in the area with their dog.
The woman died at the scene of the crash despite efforts by medics to save her.
The male pedestrian was hospitalized with moderate injuries.
Police arrested the driver, identified as Manuel Martinez Vazquez, 23, on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI causing injury. He was booked into the San Benito County Jail.
The incident is under investigation.
