Woman Dies, 9 Children Hospitalized after Bakersfield Crash on Alfred Harrell Highway near Fairfax Road

Bakersfield, California (January 16, 2021) – A woman was killed in a Saturday afternoon traffic accident that left nine children injured in Bakersfield, authorities said.
The deadly single-vehicle accident happened at about 4:02 p.m. on Alfred Harrell Highway just east of Fairfax Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, an SUV driven by the woman was allegedly traveling eastbound on the highway at a high rate of speed when it lost control and veered onto the dirt shoulder.
The SUV then flipped over several times before coming to a rest on its wheels, the officials said.

Sadly, the female driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
There were nine children in the vehicle, three of whom were in car seats that were not properly installed.
The children, aged between 5 months and 15 years, sustained minor injuries and were taken to a hospital for treatment.
Traffic on the roadway was stopped for an unknown period due to the collision.
It was not clear if drugs or alcohol played a role in the mishap.
