Plumas County, California (February 6, 2021) – Authorities have identified the man who died Wednesday evening in a head-on collision in Plumas County as Wesley Anderson, 60, of Reno.

The deadly crash took place at about 5:14 p.m. Wednesday, February 3, on Highway 395, just south of Scott Road, according to a California Highway Patrol report.

As per the CHP report, Anderson was driving a 2013 Mazda southbound on Highway 395 while Thomas Pourchot, 65, of Doyle, was driving a 2019 gray GMC Sierra northbound.

Anderson reportedly tried to pass a big rig over double yellow lines towards a curve with the view obstructed by a hill.

Pourchot, who was around a blind curve, saw the Mazda traveling southbound in the northbound lane of Highway 395 at a high rate of speed.

Pourchot tried to avoid a collision, stepped on the brake and turned his car to the right shoulder. Anderson also turned his vehicle to the same shoulder of the road in an evasive manner, but the two vehicles collided head-on.

Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene while Pourchot was taken to Renown Hospital with minor injuries.

No further details about the crash were immediately provided.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
