4 Hospitalized after Watsonville Car Crash on Highway 1 near Harkins Slough

Watsonville, California (July 5, 2020) – Four people were injured in a chain-reaction crash on Friday afternoon in Watsonville, authorities said.
The major injury crash transpired at about 1:00 p.m., on July 4, on Highway 1, just south of Harkins Slough.
According to the CHP, a truck was pulling a broken disc harrow that sparked a fire and came to an emergency stop, causing three cars that were following the truck to stop.
Another van that was behind the cars didn’t stop. The van rear-ended one of the vehicles, triggering the chain-reaction collision, the officials said.
Major Injury Traffic Accident on Highway 1 in Watsonville
A 64-year-old man from Aptos and a 23-year-old woman from Half Moon Bay sustained major injuries. A 28-year-old man and a 36-year-old man, both from Watsonville, suffered moderate injuries in the accident.
Among the injured victims were the drivers of the three cars and the van. They were all taken to a hospital for treatment.
Intoxication was not suspected of having played a role in the accident.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
