Livermore, California (June 9, 2020) – The Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau has identified the man who died in a traffic accident Thursday afternoon in unincorporated Alameda County just outside Livermore as Victor Herrera, 19, of Lathrop.

The fatal crash happened at around 3:50 p.m. Thursday, June 4, on eastbound Interstate Highway 580, just east of North Livermore Avenue.

According to a California Highway Patrol report, Herrera was driving a 2000 Honda Accord in the number 1 lane of Highway 580 at approximately 65 miles per hour when he failed to notice two vehicles in front of him came to a halt due to stopped traffic ahead.

The Accord then rear-ended a 2013 GMC Terrain that was stopped in stop-and-go traffic. The force of the impact pushed the Terrain into the rear of a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 40-year-old Lathrop man.

The CHP said a Chrysler Pacifica traveling behind the other three, slammed into the back of the Accord after the driver, a 64-year-old Moraga man, failed to notice the crash or was slow to react.
