Victim Injured in Orkutt Fiery Head-On Collision on Highway 135 ID’d as Nicholas Ainza
33-Year-Old Nicholas Ainza Hospitalized After Orkutt DUI Wrong-Way Accident on Highway 135

Orkutt, California (July 16, 2020) – 33-year-old Nicholas A. Ainza, of Santa Maria, has been identified as the victim who sustained minor injuries following a suspected DUI wrong-way collision Tuesday night in Orkutt, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
The minor injury crash took place on July 14, along Highway 135, just north of the Y intersection with Highway 1.
The accident involved a 2010 Toyota Highlander driven by Ainza and a 2010 Chevy Aveo traveling north in the southbound lane. The two vehicles then collided head-on at about 9:45 p.m.
Both automobiles acquired major damage due to the impact, and one of them caught fire upon impact.
Fidel Ortiz-Pausano Arrested After Orkutt DUI Wrong-Way Crash on Highway 135
Ainza sustained minor injuries and was rushed to Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria for treatment.
The Chevy driver, 26-year-old Fidel Ortiz-Pausano, was also hospitalized at Marian Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.
The Santa Maria resident, who was intoxicated at the time of the collision, was arrested on suspicion of DUI causing injury and booked at Santa Barbara County Jail.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
