2 Injured in Truckee Car Crash on California 89 near Sequoia Avenue

Truckee, California (January 9, 2019) – Two people were injured in a head-on collision in Truckee Monday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The accident happened at about 11:30 a.m. Monday, January 7 on California 89 near Sequoia Avenue.
The CHP said an unidentified woman stole a Truckee Fire Protection District Ford Expedition as the keys were in the vehicle. The officers used the onboard GPS to locate the vehicle, and a CHP officer found it on California 89.
The CHP official turned on his lights to stop the vehicle, but the woman drove away. Moments later, she lost control of her vehicle on the ice and collided head-on with another vehicle.
The driver of the stolen vehicle sustained major injuries and was taken to a hospital. The other driver was also transported to the hospital, where they were treated and released.
The crash caused the closure of California 89. The crash remains under investigation.
