Planada, California (June 27, 2019) – The 16-year-old Le Grand High School student who was killed in an ATV accident last week in Planada has been identified as Leslie Avila, a local news source reported.

The crash occurred at about 7:45 p.m. on Arguello Drive, west of Moreno Court.

Authorities said a 14-year-old girl was driving a 2005 Suzuki ATV west on Arguello when she slowed down to make a left turn onto a private driveway. Another ATV driven by a 17-year-old boy at a speed of about 25 mph was approaching behind the first ATV. Avila was a passenger in the second ATV.

The second ATV did not slow and crashed into the back of the first ATV. Avila and the two drivers were ejected from the ATVs.

Avila sustained a serious head injury and was flown to Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera. The girl was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the hospital.

The two drivers were hospitalized with moderate injuries.

All the teens were not wearing helmets at the time of the crash.

An investigation into the collision is in progress.
