Stockton, California (April 22, 2021) – A pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by a car early Thursday morning in Stockton, the California Highway Patrol reported.

According to CHP, the incident happened at about 3:24 a.m. on Highway 4, near Union Point Marina Bar & Grill.

A vehicle hit a pedestrian under unclear circumstances and ended up inside water in the Middle River.

A party reporting the accident said a male party was standing on top of the vehicle after the crash. Reportedly, a Hispanic male adult wearing a hoodie came out of the vehicle, appearing and smelling like he had been drinking. It was not clear if he was the same male party standing on top of the car.

CHP officials responded to the scene.

Pedestrian Hit and Severely Injured by Car

An air ambulance was requested to the scene to transport the pedestrian, who sustained severe injuries, to the hospital. The injuries were considered life-threatening.

The report said intoxication may have been a factor contributing to the accident.

The westbound lane of the highway remained closed for an unknown duration as authorities investigated and the car recovered.

No other details were available, but an investigation is ongoing.
