Sonoma County, California (December 25, 2020) – Steven Bishop, 52, of Santa Rosa, was seriously injured after being involved in a deadly head-on crash Thursday morning near Schellville in Sonoma County.

The deadly Christmas Eve collision happened at around 9:00 a.m. Thursday, December 24, on Highway 121 near Wagner Road, the California Highway Patrol reported.

According to the CHP, a 2009 Mazda was traveling southbound on Highway 121 when the driver attempted to pass another vehicle in the southbound lane in an area with double yellow lines. In the process, the Mazda collided head-on with a Ford pickup that was heading northbound on Highway 121.

Bishop, who was the Ford driver, was transported to Queen of the Valley Hospital with major injuries.

The driver of the Mazda died as a result of the crash. His name has not been disclosed pending notification of family.

Authorities said the two drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident. Neither alcohol nor drugs were not considered a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
