Stephanie Rodriguez and Maria Del Carmen Rodriguez Killed in Vista Crash on Highway 76 near East Vista Way
Vista, California (January 28, 2019) – Authorities have identified the woman who was killed Monday evening in a traffic crash in Vista as Stephanie Rodriguez, 25, of Santa Ana.
Stephanie Rodriguez was one of the two women who died after a multi-vehicle collision that occurred at around 6:30 p.m. Monday, January 21 on Highway 76, just west of East Vista Way.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office named the other deceased victim as Maria del Carmen Rodriguez, 48, also of Santa Ana.
Authorities said the accident occurred when a 40-year-old man driving a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck in the left eastbound lane swerved in an attempt to avoid hitting a 2018 Hyundai Sonata that was stopped for traffic.
The pickup rear-ended the Hyundai, and the force pushed it into the rear of a 2016 Mazda SUV, which then crashed into the back of a 2016 Ford Fusion.
Maria del Carmen Rodriguez and Stephanie Rodriguez, who were in the Hyundai, were both pronounced dead at the scene.
A man who also occupied the Hyundai was transported to Palomar Medical Center for treatment of major injuries.
The occupants of the other vehicles were not hurt, according to authorities.
Officers did not believe alcohol or drugs were factors in the accident.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
