South Sacramento, California (May 16, 2021) – Authorities are investigating a Saturday morning traffic accident that killed one person and left one other party seriously injured in South Sacramento.

The deadly traffic collision transpired at about 2:00 a.m., on May 15, on Highway 99, south of Florin Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a vehicle operated by a 19-year-old driver was speeding when it veered off to avoid traffic that had slowed in front.

Unfortunately, the vehicle reportedly crashed into the center divider, ejecting a passenger onto the roadway.

Following the collision, another driver who was headed northbound on the highway ended up colliding head-on into the crashed car, the officials said.

One other vehicle was also involved in the accident.

Sadly, the passenger who was ejected onto the roadway was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the second vehicle was hospitalized with major injuries.

The 19-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter charges.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
