Man Critically Injured in Soquel Pedestrian Accident at Soquel Drive and Rodeo Gulch Road

Soquel, California (December 22, 2020) – A pedestrian was struck and critically injured by a vehicle Saturday evening at an intersection in Soquel, Santa Cruz County, according to a local news source.
The accident happened at around 5:40 p.m. Saturday, December 19 at the northeast corner of Soquel Drive and Rodeo Gulch Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the pedestrian, only identified as a 27-year-old man, was attempting to walk across Soquel Drive inside a marked crosswalk when he was hit by a 2003 Honda Accord that was heading westbound on Soquel.
As a result of the accident, the pedestrian was thrown onto the hood of the Accord. The Accord then struck a metal guardrail on the northwest corner of the intersection and threw the pedestrian into a brushy area.

The pedestrian, whose name was not immediately disclosed, sustained critical injuries and was transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.
The Honda driver was uninjured.
Alcohol or drugs were not considered a factor in the accident. It was not immediately clear if the driver or the pedestrian entered the intersection against a red light.
An investigation into the crash is underway.
