Sonora, California (December 11, 2019) – A woman was hit and injured by a vehicle on Tuesday afternoon in downtown Sonora, according to Sonora police.

The crash happened at around 3 p.m. December 10, in the 300 block of South Washington Street and Gold Street.

Police said a woman walking in the crosswalk was struck by a vehicle. The impact sent the woman flying approximately 10 feet before landing in the roadway.

Woman Injured in Sonora Pedestrian Crash

The victim was transported by ambulance to a hospital with head and leg injuries.

The driver of the involved vehicle stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigators.

The Sonora police are investigating the incident.

Many pedestrians are hurt and several others killed in accidents in California every year. The causes of many of these pedestrian accidents include distracted driving, speeding, drunk driving, reckless driving, bad weather, wrong-way driving and failure to observe traffic laws.
