Sonoma, CA: Motorcyclist Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash on Highway 37
Man Dies in Sonoma Motorcycle Accident on Highway 37 near Richard “Fresh Air” Janson Bridge over Sonoma Creek
Sonoma, California (June 10, 2021) – A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday evening in a traffic accident on a highway south of Sonoma, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The deadly motorcycle crash happened at about 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, on Highway 37, just west of the Richard “Fresh Air” Janson Bridge over Sonoma Creek.
CHP said an unidentified man was riding his motorcycle eastbound on Highway 37 when he slowed down due to a traffic backup ahead.
For an unknown reason, the motorcyclist was rear-ended by a Chevrolet Express van, driven by a 38-year-old Vallejo man. The impact knocked the motorcycle off the roadway and slid down an embankment.
The van then slammed into the back of a Hyundai Sonata, which then rear-ended a Dodge Ram pickup. Following the crash, the van and the Sonata also slid down the embankment.
Highway 37 Accident in Sonoma County Kills Motorcyclist
First responders arrived at the scene and located the motorcycle rider lying in the thick brush nearby. Sadly, he was declared dead at the scene. His name has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.
The driver of the Sonata, a 66-year-old woman, was transported to a hospital with unspecified injuries.
CHP said neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected factors in the accident, which remains under investigation.
