Sofio Torres Killed in Escondido Pedestrian Accident at Mission Avenue and Ash Street
Sofio Torres ID’d as 2 Men Hit and Killed by Vehicle at Mission Avenue and Ash Street in Escondido
Escondido, California (February 16, 2021) – Sofio Sotelo Torres, 51, was among two men who died after being struck by a vehicle Friday night in Escondido.
The incident began at around 11:15 p.m. Friday, February 12, when an officer attempted to stop a white Ford Explorer on East Mission Avenue near Gamble Street for a traffic violation.
As the officer approached the SUV, the 13-year-old girl drove away, heading eastbound on Mission Avenue. The girl reportedly lost control of the SUV while attempting to turn left onto northbound Ash Street.
The Explorer slid into the bushes on the east side of Ash Street and struck two men who were sleeping in the bushes, the officials said.
One man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was rushed to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The teen driver and her juvenile passenger were arrested, but they were later released to their parents.
The crash remains under investigation.
