SoCalGas Worker Dies, 15 Injured in Murrieta Explosion on Wooden Horse Trail

Murrieta, California (July 15, 2019) – A Southern California Gas Company worker was killed and fifteen people were injured Monday morning in an explosion in Murrieta, according to a local news source.
The incident happened shortly before 11:00 a.m. in the 23500 block of Wooden Horse Trail.
As per the report, crews responded to reports of a natural gas line that was damaged by a contractor working on the home.
Southern California Gas Co. crews arrived to perform repair work on the line, but an explosion occurred.
One of the company’s workers died in the explosion. The name of the victim has not been disclosed pending family notification.
A total of 15 people were taken to a hospital with unspecified injuries. Three of them were Murrieta firefighters and the remaining victims were civilians.
Investigators said the contractor at the house did not call 811 to come out and mark the gas line before digging, as is required by law.
The accident remains under investigation.
