Rainbow, California (July 27, 2019) – The mother who was seriously injured in a traffic accident that left her 13-year-old son dead Tuesday afternoon at an intersection in Rainbow has been identified as Silvia Campos, according to a local news source.

The deadly wreck occurred at about 4:48 p.m. Tuesday, July 23 at the intersection of Rainbow Valley Boulevard and Old Highway 395.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a Honda Pilot driven by Campos was traveling eastbound on Rainbow Glen Road. After stopping at the red light at Old Highway 395, Campos traveled into the intersection and was hit by a northbound semi-truck carrying two rock-towing trailers, which had no stop sign or stoplight. The CHP said the semi was possibly traveling at around 55 mph.

The semi pushed the Honda Pilot into a light pole before it came to a rest.

Campos’ 13-year-old boy, who was in the front passenger seat of the Honda, died in the crash. Campos was transported by ground ambulance to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido.

A 6-year-old girl, who was in the back right passenger seat, was also transported to Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego.

The man driving the truck complained of pain and was transported to Palomar Medical Center.
